We have a gem of a county park in St. Cloud. It's located just south of the Costco complex, adjacent to the Stearns History Museum. It contains multiple ponds and attracts a huge variety of species during the spring migration. I've spent a few evenings there lately and saw, with very little effort, these species and more:

  • Osprey
  • Horned Grebe
  • Pied-billed Grebe
  • Loon
  • Bald Eagle
  • Ring-necked Duck
  • Mallard
  • American Coot
  • Ruddy Duck
  • Swamp Sparrow
  • Song Sparrow
  • Brown Thrasher
  • Common Merganser
  • Eastern Phoebe
  • Belted Kingfisher
  • Great Blue Heron
  • Great Egret

The first day was snowy and gray. The second was lit with golden evening sunlight. Here are few of the better shots I came away with.

Camera: Canon 7D Mark ii
Lens: Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM + Canon 1.4x III teleconverter
Processing: Lightroom (custom bird presets with manual adjustments)
